Rural Public Transportation

In response to the increased needs for transportation opportunities in rural areas, AAAWA applied for and was awarded a grant under the 49 USC 5311 Rural Public Transportation Project in 2011 for the purpose of providing needed transportation for the following counties: Crawford, Franklin, Johnson, Pope, Sebastian, Logan, Yell, Scott, Perry, Conway, and Polk. This was the beginning of Western Transit System, (W.T.S.).

Western Transit System, (W.T.S.) is a transportation program for all residents who need rides. Transportation can include rides for shopping, personal needs, nutrition centers, employment, and much more.

W.T.S. vans are comprised of ambulatory, as well as wheelchair accessible, vans. The wheelchair vans are equipped with ramps/lifts and can accommodate two wheelchair passengers at a time. The vehicles are also equipped with the latest technology in restraints. Our drivers are thoroughly trained in wheelchair restraint and passenger assistance to handle any passenger needs.

Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Rides need to be scheduled 48 business hours before transportation is needed. Scheduling can be made up to one month in advance. Public transportation is provided on a first come first serve basis and is considered shared transportation.
